[Report] Blokkade
Date: 28-05-2011
Location: ’t Blok Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel
Organisation: De Stoorzender & OJKB (Ouwe Jongens Krenten Brood)
Unfortunately, most ignorant, narrow minded people associate hardcore with a lot of negative publicity. Of course we know they’re wrong, but it’s kinda hard to prove them otherwise, because of that big impenetrable plate in front of their heads. However, once in a while together with hardcore, something beautiful comes along showing the world that hardcore addicts are just as involved with serious issues as is the rest of the world.
Last night we visited “Blokkade”. The local organisations ‘De Stoorzender’ and ‘Oude Jongens Krenten Brood’ decided to organise a fundraising event especially for ‘Stichting KIKA’ (An organisation sponsoring research to prevent child cancer). Initiatives like this are well appreciated but scarce.
The local youth centre ‘t Blok was the place to be. Decorated only with some posters, spotlights and stroboscopes giving the place an underground look. Friendly volunteers, banging dj-talents combined with a few well known artists (Radiate, Beatstream and Human Resource) and an enthousiastic young crowd completed this party.
It was rather early when we arrived, but unfortunately we couldn’t stay all night due to other obligations……WORK. The place was slowly filling up and the first DJ “The Wildcard” had just started his short set. Warming up the crowd with some hard tracks. After him, DJ’s Hypertension and B-Active took over the stage and started to fire up the place some more with a whole lot of well known tracks of Weapon X, Amnesys, Alien T, Angerfist vs Predator and many more. And if that wasn’t enough, MC Noizecreator shouted and jumped along the stage like a mad man to encourage the crowd some more.
In the mean while, the other room was opened as well. This area was a lot smaller but still had a great atmosphere. The dj’s there were separated from the crowd by an iron fence decorated with a camouflage net. Basz and Rextar were playing a mix of classics and hard house tracks from Joy Kittikonti, Robert Armani, DHS, The Moon and Public Energy. Another difference compared with the main stage was that the dj’s in this area had real turntables at their disposal instead of cd-players. Hell Yeah!. It is always nice to see a dj play with a control panel doing his tricks. After quickly checking out the main area where Darkrebel had taken over we decided to take a last look in the classics room before leaving the party way to early.
Although we had to miss a lot of dj’s, it was still great being there for a few hours.
What these guys did for ‘KIKA’ was great. They definitely deserve some respect. We’re curious if there’s gonna be a continuation of this concept. Keep us informed and keep up the good stuff.
