[Report] Footworxx: Sandy Warez Birthdayparty (BE)

After postponing the event more than one month (due to a date clash with Liberty White), it was finally time for Sandy Warez’ Birthday Party in Ghent. For us, the evening started with a stand-up comedy show, which meant we would arrive pretty late in Ghent. Fortunately, all went according to plan and we arrived there only 10 minutes before midnight. We parked in the immediate vicinity of the ICC, so it should be no problem to enter the party fast.

However, finding the entrance proved to be quite a problem as there were absolutely no signs. So, after walking around pretty much the entire building, we finally found the entrance and walked in during the first records of Ruffneck & Ophidian. We really wanted to hear them play, as they had indicated they were planning an industrial set for the Footworxx party. And boy, did they deliver! Of course, we all know a track like “Life Blood Pain Death”, but the Enzyme icons also brought along the new Outside Agency track “Primitive” on Sustained and of course Ophidian’s own “Abandon”.

The sound system was perfect for the industrial sounds of this set, but the biggest downside of this party immediately appeared when entering the main area: it was incredibly hot! You could really feel the heat falling down upon you as you entered the room, even without any dancing. As could be expected, the bar was incredibly crowded, so we thought we’d visit the second (Extreme Core) area where The Sickest Squad were about to play.

Luckily, the bar was far less crowded here, so we had a drink and then decided to go watch Day-Mar in the 3rd area, since we’re not really Frenchcore fans. The third area was accessible via a big stairway in the hall next to the Extreme Core area. Once upstairs, we found out that the sound system was pretty weird. At times, the kicks would sound great but the next moment it seemed as if a limiter had been installed.

So, after a while it was time to go back downstairs. Another reason was because there was no bar in the Schranz area! Deathmachine was playing some sick drum & bass tunes (Outside Agency and the likes) and also “Synapse – The Blood”. He picked up the pace pretty good towards the end, knowing Drokz was up next. After a pounding hardtechno set of Jason Little & Hammond, we visited the main area again for Delta 9’s set. With his long hair and naked chest he was a strange sight, but his record choice was a beauty! After the sped up “Pussy Motherfuckers” by Endymion, Dave played tracks such as “Life Blood Pain Death”, an old Kotzaak release and “The Destroyer – Gabber Fight”. He should, however, pay more attention to his instruments because the sound engineer had to intervene at least 3 times to improve the sound quality.

To conclude the night, we went upstairs again to witness the set of Sandy Warez & Richie Gee aka Madhouse Brothers. They did a schranz-remix of “Rmb – Spring” ( entitled “The Spring Is My Love” by Dj Hammond ), “Life Blood Pain Death”, “Dj Smurf - Lollypop” and “Abandon”. Since we still had two drink tokens left, we thought we’d quickly go downstairs for some drinks and head straight back. And that’s when the 3rd downer of the party appeared. At 5.45 the security refused to let anyone go back upstairs! Arguing proved pointless, so we called it a day and returned home after a nice party with great music. For the next edition, the organization should really find a solution for the temperature problems, but other than that, the location is approved.
