[Report] Mental Breakdown vs. Mindfuck (BE)
After a dazzling start with two events within a short period of time, Mindfuck Events seemed to be keeping a low profile. Except for an Italian edition, there wasn’t all that much going on. Until the originally planned Mental Breakdown event suddenly decided to add a Mindfuck room. It meant a new discovery for us, because we’d only visited events with one area in the increasingly popular location Entrepot.
Another plus was the fact that this second area meant we could persuade more people to come along for the almost 3-hour drive to Bruges, Belgium. This area was located on the upper deck, across the toilets in a small room which reminded us of the smaller area in Factory 010 (remember Noisekick’s Solo Proces and PRSPCTL XL) with pipes and aeration nozzles running through it. Spookane was playing an industrial hardcore set with numerous DNA-tracks, which didn’t quite come across because of the bad sound quality.
When Scumbag took over and Spookane was walking around greeting his fans, he obviously noticed the sound problems and quickly adjusted the settings. This immediately increased the atmosphere and made the following set by G.H.B. an intense, pounding one. Gerry played tracks like “The Outside Agency – Primitive”, “The Blood”, “Lowroller - Tormented VIP” and “Ophidian - Abandon”. The crowd mostly consisted of the usual Mental Breakdown visitors and a few gabbers, who all went crazy and made the temperature rise to extreme heights, causing the windows to fog up.
At 01.00h, it was time to head over to the main area for the drum & bass headliner: Forbidden Society. From the balcony, we watched him give his fans what they wanted: real, raw darkstep tracks like “Primitive”, “My Favorite Sin”, “The Resistance” in the mix with “Among Us” and the incredible “Katharsys - Guidance (Forbidden Society Overkill RMX)”. Too bad the Czech hero had been programmed at the same time as The Outside Agency in the Mindfuck area. It got even weirder when we noticed Dj Hidden would be playing downstairs at 02.30h, when there was still a half hour to go for The Outside Agency. This obviously meant Eye-D was left to his own devices for the last part of their set.
Hidden opened his set with an extremely dirty track, then threw in records like “The Outsider Looking In”, “Current Value – Hitman”, “Dead Phantoms - Void Of Life”, “Peter Kurten – The Real World”, “My Favorite Sin” and “Among Us”. Too bad there weren’t all that many visitors, but the vibe was tight. Decorations were a bit more minimalistic compared to last time with another graffiti-styled background but a less impressive stage all together.
One thing to work on is definitely the drinks system. For some reason, there were two types of tickets: orange was for beer and yellow for soft drinks. The strange thing was, that a Redbull had to be paid in beer tickets… On the plus side, they had Duvel and Leffe, which is quite unique for this kind of event. Still, there were people who had brought their own drinks as there was no checking of bags at the entrance.
Closing the night was the responsibility of NDM, who teamed up with predecessor Craver for the occasion. As most Belgian heads probably know, NDM is a fan of Limewax and therefore it was no surprise that the necessary classics were dropped. One hit record after another passed by and although the lights were already switched on at 05.30h, none other than “Kristall Weizen”, “Hardcore Vibes (Cooh Remix)”, “Agent Orange”, “Times Like These”, “The Chaos Theory” and “Hell’s Basement” kept the party going until about 06.15h. A fine first example of a hopefully fruitful cooperation between two respected organizations.
