DJ D – Back on Melody

Review: DJ D – Back on Melody (hm2779 – 12” 45rpm)
Label: Hardcore Blasters
Released: 20-12-2010
Tracks: A1 Back on melody / B1 Back to da Hard

Diego Buffoni might not be the most well known DJ in Italy, but he’s certainly a man to reckon with. Still developing his own style and slowly stepping out of the shadow of other producers like Hellsystem, Amnesys and Mad Dog. Though everybody knows at least one of his tracks like “Electro Shocking” (2005 with Outblast), “Cold as Ice” (Angels of Darkness pseudonym) or “Gloria”, not everybody’s familiar with the man behind those specific tracks.
Now he’s back again with a 2-track EP. Mainstream hardcore which will get the party started. Nice sounding melodies and great, not too hard, bangin’ kicks.

We start off with the main title track “Back on Melody”. The smothered kick, which will be combined with a heavier ‘normal’ bassdrum later on, is accompanied with some nice subtle percussion before it starts to bang, like it should. The slight dramatic melody is built up by several different synthesizers and solitary stretched tones, which combined, form quite an up-lifting melody. Together with some tough male vocals and background bells, this track is ready to fill the dance floors. I predict this track to be one of the most played mainstream tracks when the festival season starts in April / May 2011.

The second track “Back to da hard” is more energetic straight from the start. The slow drums, the kick ass percussion and long sounding synths create a nice vibe. You just want this track to burst out of the speakers. When it does, try to stand still. Again Diego pushes the melody to great heights. The break is excellent. The main melody is somewhat purified to get those arms in the air and lets the place explode when the bass hits in again.
This track rocks some more compared to “Back on Melody” and is suited for the cross over between mainstream and more energetic higher-bpm tracks to finish off a dj-set.

Both tracks are first class party tracks, though both for another moment during your DJ-set. Check them out! And keep an eye out for more releases from this DJ / producer.
