In-Phase – Mysteries Of Life EP
The word is finally out! In-Phase has joined the Dirty Workz family and their first release on DWX: Update will follow shortly! After releasing two tracks on Torque Beats and a remix on Subsonic Muzik they’ve now signed on the leading Belgian Hardstyle label Dirty Workz. With this we want to congratulate the Dutch-Belgian duo. Here after a review of their new EP will follow.

1. Mysteries Of Life
The intro piece contains a great reversed bassline, and so does the mid. The sounds in the mid are good, and typical In-Phase in my opinion, I am not quite sure yet how to define their sound, but its euphoric and melodic for sure. The mid isn’t very special I think, but it’s not boring either. The reversed bassline is the most important part for me. The break is again good, it builds up in a good way with a great melody. This is what I think In-Phase is best at, their melodies, just as in their last release on Torque Beats. The outro is almost the same as the intro, but that’s not a bad thing because it was a decent one!

2. Afterlife
This track was already released on the Q-Base compilation of 2010, mixed by Coone. That is why to some of you this track can sound familiar, it was also played at some events like Decibel and Defqon.1. The intro and mid contain a great reversed bassline which made me smile. The mid again feels rough where the melody feels euphoric. The melody is decent in the first climax, in the second climax it is better in my opinion but that also creates a nice buildup during the track. The outro mid feels insanely rough, which makes it my favourite part since the difference between the climax and outro mid surprises you every time, where in fact the bassline of the outro mid is the same as the bassline of the intro mid. The total outro is a bit short for my likings but with the short intro’s these days that won’t have such a bad turnout. Overall I can say that this track is good, but I expected it to be a bit more melodic then it is, but then again this melody works great with the bassline it has in the climax.

3. Hear The Quiet
The intro is nice, I especially like how the synth goes, because this makes it easy to sample during mixing. The same synth is in the mid, which creates a good flow in the track, especially in the second mid, and the part between the two mids. The break is probably my favourite part. Very original with these vocals and the build up to the climax, with a tiny “Sshh” just before it. The vocals and the “Sshh” define the track as it is, this is important in my eyes since it makes it distinctive to other tracks, it gives the track a “soul” where some tracks in hardstyle don’t have that. This track contains two breaks and climaxes, if I define that right. This also makes the track original. The second break really contains a “Quiet” with some nice strings behind that. The breaks are a bit more aggressive and less melodic then I am used to from In-Phase but this makes the difference between the “Quiet” and the climaxes even more into an adrenaline rush. The outro contains the same again as the intro but it feels a bit more rough now. In total this makes the track my favourite of this EP.

Overall this EP of In-Phase is good in my opinion, especially when you hold in mind that this is just their second release. These guys have a great future ahead of them, especially with Dirty Workz. I expect more releases and several big gigs for them, which they deserve. All tracks will work out great on the dance floors, which in the end, is the most important part of dance music.

P.S. These guys just launched their new website: http://www.in-phase.nl and to celebrate that release they put up a free track to download: Elektric Rhytm, a funky track with an oldschool feeling and great drive in it, the only thing I don’t like about it are the vocals, but that’s just a matter of taste since they are quite strange. Check it out!
