Italian pyromaniacs Cristian Nardelli and Jose Sendra are back again with a new magnificent, flamethrowing masterpiece called “FIRE : Ignite”. The long awaited follow up of ICE : Pain & Fear, which was a great success last year with tracks like, “Time Has Come”, “Pain & Fear” and “Gamma Release”. Can they re-invent their sound and surprise us yet another time? They kept us waiting for over 11 months for these 3 new tracks before releasing them, whilst in May and June the first tracks were already tried out in the infamous Hardcore Italia Podcasts # 9 and #12 by Meccano Twins and Art of Fighters (their alter ego).

However, waiting for the summer to be over and then releasing their new EP was probably the best thing to do anyway. People are back from their vacation and already starting to get tired from work again real fast. They are still remembering the festivals and long nights in which they indulged themselves with all lurking seductions. What’s better to reset their engine than by inducing that little spark that sets their world on Fire, letting them get rid of all their built up frustrations and anger? Bringing them back again to that long lost, magical memory.

Meccano Twins start with “Combustion”. The fast hi-hats and dark echoing exploding sounds create a solid base from which the track expands with a distorted, fragmented synth and a harmonic melody which should be part of a horror movie soundtrack like ‘Scream’ or ‘Friday the 13th’. The second background melody, with doomy strings, builds up and changes rapidly into a screaming leading synthesizer melody. The up-tempo metallic echoing bassline invites you to go out of your mind and burst out of your accumulated energy excess. A great first track for this new EP.

Track 2 “Ignite” starts with a much heavier, pounding bassdrum. The synthesizer first seems a bit standard with its torn apart sounds, but as we all know, never underestimate the creativity of the Italian producers. They twist and bend the sounds just as long as needed, in every possible manner until they are convinced they’ve made a dangerous cocktail of delightful yet ear-tearing noises, ready to cloud your brain, taking you to the edge of pleasure and pain. Together with the voice samples (from the movie “Taken 96hrs”) the metallic echoeing synths and the breakbeats create a tense, threatening atmosphere. This track will set many floors on fire. (Unexist used this one already in his Q-Base mix.)

Alpha, Beta, Gamma……”Delta Release”. Part four in the Greek alphabet release series. This industrial kicker takes off with some really deformed and creepy sounds before the engine of a really frightening, evil machine starts roaring. You better make sure you get the hell out of there! The kickdrum is not that special this time, but it’s the surrounding sounds that make this track interesting. Pitched up 8-bit computer sounds and a dark but pure melody (almost similar to the sounds in a baby toy) combined with scraping synthesizers tickle your curiousity.

All tracks are quite short, under 5 minutes. Because of the slow build up and sudden energetic outburst near the end, they seem to end a bit abruptly. Besides that all three tracks are true worthy follow ups of the “ICE”-EP. Hopefully Meccano Twins keep abusing their synthesizers and drum computers in the near future, satisfying our need for more musical mayhem. For now it’s time to turn up the volume and get ready for “FIRE : Ignite”, our new energy outlet.

Truly a great release. They cover every aspect, down-tempo to up-tempo, melodic to asymmetrical rhytmes. I love this release, it's brilliant. Can't wait for the next EP in this series!
