Mindustries - The Resistance EP
Label: The Third Movement
Catalog#: T3RDM0172D
Released: 06 Apr 2011
Mindustries are back again with a whole new EP. After multiple releases on Enzyme, Genosha and Symp.tom, this time they joined forces with The Third Movement. The result is a stunning 4 track EP digitally released as 320kbps mp3.
This time they left their raw style behind and got some subtleties into their tracks. More detail for sound and space, though still very recognizable for those who’ve had the pleasure of enjoying their previous EP’s.
The first track “The Arrival” starts off with a great surrounding string, combined with screaky noizes which slowly tear your eardrums apart. The atmosphere is dense and doomy thanks to the vocal which warns us about a coming war. The bass emerges slowly from beneath the other sounds and sounds realy dirty. The slow rhythm is perfect. After the middle break, the track rises up again but this time more thickened and distorted to guide you to the end. For those who’ve seen the movie “Book of Eli”: you can compare that world with this track.
The next track “Black” has a more refined build up. Multiple short percussion elements are combined to a subtle breakbeat. When after more then a minute the bass finally kicks in… this production really gets on track. The scraping melody is quite simple but the background strings and percussion give this track it’s body. Dark and nasty.
After hearing these two tracks, we can conclude that Mindustries must have learned alot from their collaborations with The Outside Agency. They are definitely influenced by them.
The third track “Resistance” is the most straight on track of the four. The bass kicks right in and after an increase in intensity we get a dark, sinister track. The bassline consists out of two parts: The higher short-echoing bass, building up the tension and the heavy fat bass, providing a steady rhythm. Throughout this track we encounter multiple elements of both previous tracks and with the more up-tempo bassline it’s only logical that “Resistance” is the ideal titletrack of this EP.
Only “Depths” remains. The longest track of all. Again the guys took their time to build up this creation. Fast hi-hats and a low threatening bassline warn us for what’s still to come. The bassdrum slowly increases in strength and fades away making place for aggressive rising strings and synthesizers, stretched and pitched. Halfway we are treated to some really spacy synths which are deformed and combined with an awesome acid-melody-line. Hard, neurotic, freaky, brain frying tones. No happy shit. Though quite hypnotic when played loud on your headphones.
What’s left to say? Nothing much. Mindustries has done an excellent job. They’re gonna make the floors tremble with their energetic rhythms. Just get this release and play it at home, in your car or during a gig. Share it with the world around you.
