Fear.FM release DB
So, Digital:Age is now officially 5 weeks old (eating a cake all by myself to celebrate each week really isn't helping my figure). The 5th release on this new label has been released today and it's none another than Noisecontrollers - Give it up.
After a very confusing release last week that surely made more than a few people just pull a funny face while blurting out the title "Huh?", this week is barely different.
The Noisecontrollers have produced a gem, that much can be said. Production wise, this is a very beautiful release. These sound engineers know what they're doing and they do it well, each and every time! However, it's hard not to let my personal opinion of this track take over and that's to say, I don't like this "as much" as the previous releases. Being a DJ, I try to give each track a place in the tracklist the little guy up in my head is frantically scribbling down for me. I guess I can give it two distinct places in my tracklist. One being at the very start (so, the opener) and the second being somewhere in the middle, just to screw around with anyone listening. You know, kind of muck around with the build-up, give the set an element of surprise.
In a way, "Give it up" reminds me so much of "Gimme Love". Moreover, it reminds me of the (mid) intro, except that this track just seems like one big long (mid) intro for "Gimme Love". I really really enjoy the kick though, it's soft but on the other hand still rough.
One thing I miss is a clear build-up. Not that's it's a rule to have a clear build-up but I still miss it. I guess I could carefully say that this is much like a house track, in which the build-up (ie: the snare roll) is giving you the impression of a climax which is just over that hill, but once you reach the top and take a look over the vast landscape underneath you, you just see mid intro after mid intro - or at least what sounds like a mid intro. That's how I feel. It's like "Oh yeah!.. the climax is about the drop.. get ready" *put's hands up in the air* "... hmmm, my mistake. But, here comes another one". And before you know it, the track is finished and you're standing there on the dancefloor, scratching your head and eying your beer, checking for any hallucinogens which may have slipped in.
However, it doesn't take away the fact that "Give it up" still is a great track in its own special way. I've heard it live many times and although it doesn't give me that distinct energetic feeling that I get out of Hardstyle, it's a great way to bounce around while enjoying the show and this time not spilling any of that precious beer. In all its simplicity, this is still a nice, relaxing Hardstyle track with an amazing deep kick which reverberates throughout the arena at any large party or event. Throw in a few funky sounds to pump it up a bit and you've got yourself a nice Hardstyle track with a touch of something different, something unique, something Digital:Age.
I applaud the Noisecontrollers with their take on something fresh and different, but I honestly really miss the energetic feeling I usually experience when listening to these guys' productions. I guess it's much like life. Sometimes you just need to take a breath of fresh air and slow down, relax, enjoy... and then get ready for that next adrenaline rush!
My favorite part would have to be the second half, where the kick gets a new rythmic pulse to jive everything up again into something slightly new.
So, what do you think about this release?
