Last week, Mr. Wildstylez rocked the Hardstyle world with his release "Into the Light". Of course, a great track is usually met with great success, and that's just what Wildstylez has managed to do, because as I write this, "Into the Light" is sitting comfortably at the #1 spot in the Hardstyle.com charts. Reigning the Hardstyle charts as it looks down in disdain at the Hardstyle souls reaching for that number 1 spot underneath it.
Now, today Noisecontrollers have released the 10th track on the Digital:Age label. As far as I know, this will be the last track in the weekly release marathon and I'm not quite sure on their release schedule, so we'll need to see what the near future brings.
I have to be bluntly honest as I force this through my lips, but this is the first time I've heard "Stella Nova" so I guess that's a good way to start a review.
When I get the track going, the first thing that pops into my head is "Damn, this does sound like a soundtrack from a movie" and then a nice grunge face kicks in as the kicks pound through my earbuds as my poor little eardrums are bombarded with some pretty heavy kicks. Again, I can't judge on the amount of bass, so luckily I'll be sparing my lungs a good shake as the bass usually rips through my chest.
About the bits of the kick I can hear. Well, I like the crisp crunchiness in the kick. Usually kicks which audible crunchiness sound quite bassy, but the Noisecontrollers have done a good job getting the crunch sound in the kick sounding nice and crisp.
We then head off to the buildup just before the climax as the soundtrack sounds return. I hope this rocks my socks off!
Unfortunately... and this is the very first unfortunate disappointment I've had to witness when writing my reviews, the climax felt very weak. I really like the fact that they tried to combine the choir with side chaining (the ducking effect you hear). But I feel the choir sound is too thin and I don't like the melody line which they've used. Maybe the guys were aiming for this sound, I wouldn't be surprised because the Noisecontrollers know what they're doing and everything they do, they do for a reason. But let's just say, it's not exactly what I'd expected or was hoping for.
Thankfully, the kicks are brutal enough to place this track into the "Raw" cabinet, because let's be honest, this track is pretty brutal and I can always appreciate that.
To conclude, "Stella Nova" is far from what I'd expected. I'll see this as something positive, because that's what Digital:Age is all about, right? Making you expect something, but giving you something completely different. It's kind of like the anti-climax of emotions. Although you're sometimes disappointed about an anti-climax in a track, because you didn't expect it, you still manage to clench your fist, grind your teeth and smash those feet on the ground because you've just been hit with something completely unexpected and yet you've still given it a place in your heart to go completely nuts to.
So, Noisecontrollers, I'd like to applaud you on that emotional rollercoaster ride. I was put aback by the unexpectedness of "Stella Nova" which was surprising enough to make me like the overall feeling of the track.
I'd be very interested in what you all think about "Stella Nova". Maybe I've missed something in my analogy? Comment away.. BELOOOOWWWW!

I'm just going to ruin the surprise you'll get when you hear it live and say the bass on the climax part is insane.
