Last Monday Scantraxx released another new double tracker produced by the Swedish duo Wasted Penguinz who are known for their euphoric style. At the moment this is at spot one and three at the Hardstyle.com top 10, so i thought it was time to check it out!
Wasted Penguinz - Melancholia
This release surprised me in a positive way. To be honest, Wasted Penguinz have never been on my radar as being at the top of their game, but my opinion is certainly beginning to change! The track starts off with a typical intro just made for mixing then a short break to get into the mid part of the track. This first little break sits well with the breaks later on in the track, which is something I like. Also, it sounds especially great when the vocals come in. It kind of feels like this track has two mids; one with, and one without the vocals. To criticize the vocals, they sound a quite cool but the lyrics don’t appeal to me. As per usual for the framework of a hardstyle track; the main part appears and includes an epic breakdown. With this track, they kept it this way and it feels awesome. I will not try to describe the break, you’ll need to hear it to understand it, but in my opinion it’s quite original. This track’s second breakdown and climax finish the job off with an even more euphoric feeling together with those vocals from the mid, which seem to colour this track's atmosphere. The outro is a bit short but its still useful for the DJs. Overall this track has a great euphoric feeling, original build up and most importantly, a great melody.
Far From Reality
Here our Swedish friends tried to go a bit more dark. The intro has a great and full sound in my opinion. Behind that intro and mid, the break contains a good melody and a buildup I can appreciate. This melody is also a tad more dark, but I wouldn’t label it a ‘Raw’ track, as some others like to. The beauty of this production shows itself in the second climax, where Wasted Penguinz use their main melody as a sort of bassline for a new melody. If you listen very carefully you’ll notice that too! The outro is the same as the intro, which is standard. Overall this track is good and fits at the end of your set if you’re not that into 'Raw' stuff.
To conclude this review I would say that this release is one of the best from Wasted Penguinz, let’s hope they keep improving like this and keep their tracks.

And the best thing is that the greatest tracks are yet to come, the next 3 releases will be fucking epic I promise you. Next release will contain track "Stay Alive" (quite nice podcast quality 3:47 rip is avail on youtube) which is in my objective opinion one of the greatest tracks ever produced. But there's also 4 other really great unreleased tracks that have about as great quality as Melancholia or better, Freedom is Me, Circle of Life, Extension and Whitin which are also tracks I just can't wait for to be released.
